What you’ll need:

For the Matchini:

  • 3g of matcha
  • 40ml of water
  • 10ml vodka
  • 20ml white rum
  • 15ml simple syrup (can be homemade using a 1:1 sugar and water mixture heated until the sugar is dissolved)
  • A squeeze of lemon juice

Mocktail version: for an alcohol free version, you can replace the alcohol for 20ml of pear juice.

Decoration (optional):

  • White sugar rim
  • Rosemary stalk (your mini Christmas tree!)
  • Cranberries

How to make it:

Whisk the matcha


In a matcha bowl, sift your 3 grams of ceremonial matcha powder (we used our Shizuoka Ceremonial). Add warm water (not more than 75°C) and whisk with a chasen until smooth and frothy.

Optional: Add a ‘snowy’ white sugar rim:

Dip the rim of your glass in water to create a ‘glue’, then coat with white sugar.

Let your inner mixologist come out
Pour in the vodka, rum, simple syrup, a splash of lemon juice, the frothy matcha and ice into your cocktail shaker and jingle it all the way for about 10-15 seconds.

Garnish
Add a sprig of rosemary and a few cranberries to add a little christmas spirit to your matchini.

Pour and enjoy
Raise your glass and toast to a wonderful “matcha-mas”.

A little tip: Sip slowly because this Merry Matchini is smooth enough to sleigh you right into holiday spirit!
